The Anything Blog
I watched this movie called "Split" which is part of the Unbreakable trilogy but its basically about this kidnapper who suffered from Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) and of course its like a fiction movie but also people have been very critical of the movie especially in terms of the psychology behind it and how accurate the disorder was depicted within the film.
I did a bit of googling after watching the film because I was very intrigued by it and its shown that usually these alternate personalities can come out as a result of some sort of trauma. These alternate personalities can have different medical conditions, interests, and vocabulary from others. I thought it was really interesting that some personalities can have medical conditions like diabetes, different allergies, ages, sexual orientations, accents, and memories from other personalities. Another article I read had information regarding how people depict mental disabilities in the media and how they "demonize" people with this disorder. I think this is very important because people should be careful of not harming those who suffer from certain mental disorders by putting inaccurate information in film.
